Massages

Ayurvedic massages can be conducted with oils and herbs. The recipient of the massage is typically made to lie down on a special wooden cot after which the therapists begin to treat the body. A massage can be performed over the entire body or specific affected body parts like the hands, the feet, the back, the face and the head. Various massage techniques are used to treat an ailment or generally allow the body to feel rejuvenated and nourished. The body can be massaged by one to four therapists, depending on the intensity of the massage being undertaken.

Massages at Ayurveda Kendra

Pizhichil or Thailadhara (Oleation & Sudation)

Duration: 75 minutes 

Pizhichil is a combination of two classical Ayurvedic treatments, namely Snehana (oleation or medicated herbal oil therapy) and Swedana (sudation or perspiration therapy), which are essential in the maintenance and restoration of good health.

In this treatment, the whole body is engulfed in streams of lukewarm herbal oils (more than three litres) and gently massaged in synchrony by two highly skilled masseurs.  This treatment heats the skin mildly and draws impurities to the surface leaving one feeling peaceful, calm and relaxed.

It is great for boosting immunity and treating rheumatic diseases, arthritis, paralysis, sexual dysfunction, neurological disorders, high blood pressure. It also helps to slow down the ageing process.


Abhyangam (Synchronized Full Body massage)

Duration: 45 minutes 

This is a deeply relaxing, full body massage performed with warm oils. Following the natural movement of Vata dosha, it aims to restore balance and well being. The massage is traditionally performed by two masseurs working on both sides of the body in a series of synchronized movements. The number of strokes, depth and speed used is tailored to the condition of the body.

This treatment benefits the whole body physically, mentally and emotionally while balancing the Doshas. Its stimulating rhythmic motion relieves rheumatic and arthritic joint and muscle stiffness, increases blood circulation, encourages quick elimination of metabolic wastes (toxins) and provides relief from anxiety, fatigue, backaches and injuries. The massage techniques promote deep penetration of the oils into the tissues to loosen toxins, increase suppleness of the skin and body, remove fatigue and promote strength.

According to the classical texts, this massage is recommended daily to prevent ageing and degeneration process.


Mukha and Shiro Abhyangam (Face and Head Massage)

Duration: 30 minutes

This is a relaxing head and face massage. It covers the shoulders, face, scalp and upper back with Ayurvedic oils. This stimulates the vital energy points, provides relief to the sensory organs and promotes a feeling of relaxation.


Pada-Abhyangam and Hasta-Abhyangam (Feet and Hand massage)

Duration: 30 minutes

Our tired extremities bear the brunt of daily commute and work, and this massage is just the thing to get you on your feet again. The hands and feet have several nerve endings and thus, this massage improves blood circulation, relaxes and strengthens limbs and leaves you feeling reinvigorated.


Greeva-Hasta Abhyangam (Neck and Hand massage) 

Duration: 30 minutes

Desk jobs, long working hours and incorrect sitting posture tends to built up stress in the neck region. This vigorous neck and hand massage using warm herbal medicated oil helps relieve the fatigue and tension in these regions by increasing the blood circulation. It helps relax the tension, thereby restoring the flexibility and removing the stiffness. The massage on the pressure points leaves you feeling strengthened and reinvigorated.


Pristha Abhyangam (Back massage)

Duration: 30 - 60 minutes

The daily stress and strain of modern day lifestyle takes a huge toll on our bodies resulting in problems of back. This massage with herbal medicated oil helps stimulate the nerves and increase the blood circulation to the region. It relieves the stiffness and relaxes the muscles in the area. Helps to strengthen the spinal musculature making it strong and sturdy.


Udhwarthanam (Dry Powder massage)

Duration: 60 minutes

Unlike many Ayurvedic treatments, this deep massage uses prescribed herbs in their dry powdered form to stimulate your hair follicles and break down any excess subcutaneous fat resulting in a slimmer, firmer you! Udhwarthanam is also effective in reducing blood cholesterol, obesity & skin problems, improving mobility of joints, strengthening muscles and refreshing the body.
